about

Lucky To Be Alive is the latest single from Tasmanian indie rock quartet The Tinderboxers.

The song deals with the climate grief and climate anxiety present in our communities, and the way in which such experiences are intensified by the relentlessness of social media. Its lyrics cleverly weave the everyday events of passing time with a young persons constant angst for an uncertain future.

Ultimately however, the core message of the song is one of hope and optimism, as immortalised in the anthemic refrain from which it takes its title: we are after all lucky to be alive.

lyrics

Lovely day today isn’t it baby?
I guess it’s just the climate changing.
I drove us down to the supermarket,
I wanted coffee but I make no money.
Should’ve stayed in bed today I swear it’s nothing sometimes I get this way.

Uh huh I get this way.

Are we going to go out tonight?
I know I said I wasn’t feeling right.
But now I’ve read all of my news feed,
The thought of it, oh how it’s haunting me.
Oh yes it’s haunting me.

Please don’t go tell me something I already know.
Growing up was so hard and now you’re writing on the world’s headstone.

Oh no, you’re not in it alone.

Laying, shaking, you’re awake all night.
Oh god I’m sorry that you’re feeling so poorly.
Please let me make you a cup of tea let’s sit right here, watch the sky falling down.

Let’s watch it falling down.

Please don’t go tell me something I already know.
Growing up was so hard and now you’re writing on the world’s headstone.

Oh no, you’re not in it alone.

You were crying I was trying to not despair cos I love you my dear.
The world’s dying, they keep lying now is it fair, to live in fear?
Lucky to be alive, lucky to be alive I’m.

Lovely day today isn’t it baby?
